“When is the best time to prune my trees?”

It’s one of the questions our arborists hear most often across the Columbia Valley and East Kootenays. The honest answer is: it depends on the tree and what you are trying to accomplish.

For many trees in our region, the dormant season is an excellent time for structural pruning. But dead or hazardous branches should not necessarily be left until winter, and some trees are better pruned at other times of year.

Before recommending when to prune, we look at the species, condition, age and location of the tree, along with the reason the work is being considered.
