Tree Service Cost Guide – Columbia Valley & East Kootenays

How Much Does Tree Work Cost?

Tree service pricing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Every property, tree, and access situation is different — which means pricing can vary depending on tree height, location, risk level, and what you’d like done with the debris.

Typical Tree Service Pricing (CAD)

Tree Trimming & Pruning

Most residential pruning projects fall within:

  • Small trees (up to 30 ft): $150–$500

  • Medium trees (30–60 ft): $300–$800

  • Large trees (60+ ft): $500–$1,800+

  • Very large or complex trees: $1,600–$3,200+

Pricing depends on access, number of trees, required safety measures, and cleanup level.

Tree Removal

Tree removal costs are typically:

  • Small tree (easy access): $150–$500

  • Medium residential tree: $500–$1,200

  • Large tree (60+ ft): $1,200–$2,700+

  • Very large or complex removals: $2,500–$8,000+

Trees located near homes, power lines, fences, or on steep slopes often require additional planning and specialized equipment.

Stump Grinding

Stump grinding pricing is based on stump diameter, access for equipment, root flare and surface roots, and the level of cleanup requested.

As a general reference, a straightforward 12" stump with easy access can start around $145, while larger stumps or more complex access conditions increase accordingly.

Factors that influence pricing include:

  • Overall stump diameter

  • Root spread and surface roots

  • Backyard or limited equipment access

  • Proximity to fences, structures, or utilities

  • Whether mulch is left on site or fully removed

What Impacts the Final Cost?

1. Tree Height & Structure

Larger trees require more time, labour, and safety measures. Structural defects, decay, or heavy limb weight can also increase complexity.

2. Access & Location

Front yard trees are generally more efficient.

Backyard trees, steep slopes, limited equipment access, or tight working spaces increase labour and time requirements.

3. Cleanup Level

  • Leaving debris on site reduces cost.

  • Standard cleanup (chip and stack wood) increases labour.

  • Full haul-away and disposal increases labour and equipment use.

4. Safety Requirements

Tree care is one of the most hazardous trades in Canada. Proper insurance, WorkSafeBC compliance, certified arborists, and professional equipment are essential for protecting your property.

Why Professional Tree Care Matters

Tree work is highly specialized and safety-sensitive. Hiring a properly insured, certified, and equipped company ensures:

  • Protection of your home and property

  • Safe removal without unnecessary damage

  • Compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations

  • Long-term tree health and proper pruning standards
